Hi, I'm not sure what's going on but it's pretty irritating. There aren't many 4K movies, but I was trying to watch a 4K copy of The Martian and it would play for about 10 seconds, buffer for 5 seconds, and repeat over and over. I tried playing this via my Sony XBR55X800B's Plex app as well as my Xbox One's Plex app. I also tried streaming it from my Ubuntu VPS (Quad core, 16gb RAM) as well as from my local Plex Media Server on my laptop (3rd Gen i7, 12GB RAM, SSD) on both devices. The internet speed isn't the issue, I have gigabit internet and the TV, Laptop, and Xbox One were all wired (I tried wireless as well). When trying to play from my laptop, it was in Performance Mode, the PlexTranscoder was using, at max, about 50% of the CPU.
I have to imagine it was more of an issue with the format the video was in more than anything. My TV and Xbox One wouldn't play the MKV file from a USB stick. I tried changing the container to MP4 via ffmpeg (ffmpeg -i input.mkv -c:v copy -c:a copy output.mp4) and still neither would play it. Even when trying to reduce the quality on both devices from both my VPS and laptop down to 12mbps, 10mbps, 8mpbs, 4mpbs, it would still buffer. Here is some information about the video:
Video:
Codec: H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (part 10) (avc1)
Resolution: 3840x2178
Display resolution: 3840x2160
Audio:
Codec: DTS Audio (dts )
Sample rate: 48000 Hz
Bitrate: 768 kb/s
Any helpful advice? Thanks in advance.
