I am TOTALLY NEW to the PLEX world, or anything besides sticking a disc in my blueray player, so I have lots of questions.
I am considering using plex for my home I am building. I plan on having a home server, and I will probably buy an Appletv to use the plex app since my Vizio tv is too old to get the plex app. ( I may just get the app on my xbox 360 if I can figure a way to place the x-box by my receiver instead of by my tv.)
I want to be able to use the plex feature of streaming my content while away, onto a variety of devices. (Is this a feature I must purchase?)
Is there a preferred file type to which I should rip my dvd's if I want to watch them high quality at home, and stream from other devices as well (such as ipad, iphone, macbook, android phone)? I want to preserve quality in video and audio (I want to still listen to movies in surround sound, and have High Definition from my bluerays). Which video ripping software should I use create this ideal file type? Or must I save multiple file types to be used by different devices? I'm pretty confused about how PLEX will handle a video file on different devices, and I also need to know how to best rip my personal dvd's so they will play well and still be high quality for home movie watching.
