when I change configuration under Web and Server, and press the Save Changes Icon it appears to save the changes but after I play some media and come back to the configuration pages all the changes i made are reset to the old configuration. So, I can't actually setup plex the way I want it. It's like Plex has built in settings that can't really be changed.
Is there any help for this or is it built in?
Thanks
Hi everyone,
I have done wiring previously but I am blanking on what wiring set up I need to line up for my current project.
So back story, I moved in with some family and there is cat5e wired throughout the house but most are not connected and are in the basement. I am trying to connect some cable together so I can get my computer running Plex to be hard wired. I have already used a tone/probe set to find which two wires need to be connected but I don't remember what order to put the wires in the RJ45 connector. If someone would please help me with this I would greatly appreciate it.
What color order do I need each end of the cords.
I would really appreciate it if someone could let me know what order I need the cables in each of those 4 ends of my cat5e.
Thank you in advance all you great people.
Hi everybody,
I apologize in advance if I'll write something that doesn't make much sense but I basically don't know anything about the topic.
I would like to know from you guys if it's possible to play any kind of video anywhere I am, regardless of my configuration.
Let me try to be more clear: I've just remuxed a blu ray movie into an .mkv container, where I have an English TrueHD Atmos 7.1 audio track, an English AC3 5.1 track, plus several other AC3 tracks in different languages (the English tracks were originally one single TrueHD + AC3 track combined but when I put it into the MKVToolNix it automatically divided them in two separate tracks).
If I try to play the movie (with Google Chromecast 2) on my TV (a regular HDTV with no Hi-Fi or anything else) selecting the TrueHD Atmos track, Plex says that it's impossible to cast. If I choose any other AC3 track the movie plays flawlessly.
I expected to be able to play the TrueHD Atmos track anyway, like when I play it on my PC with VLC 3.0 nightly or when I play a 5.1 track on my stereo TV, without getting the "full experience". If I can't do that I have to keep two English tracks, while I would like to get rid of the AC3 one (since, as far as I know, I can't keep them combined in a single track with the .mkv format).
So, my questions are: why can't I play that movie on my TV? Is it Chromecast, Plex or my TV? And if I can fix that, what happens when I go to a friend's house or to a hotel that doesn't have the same configuration that I have at home? Will I still be able to play it or will I have the same issue? If there is a solution, does it apply every audio formats like DTS:X, DTS-HD MA etc?
Thank you so much for your time and help
every time i go to get a Plex Pass i am ask for a pin number ? never put a 4 digitpin number anywhere to do with PLEX
I realize it's probably not going to affect the way a video is played to any device, but I'm curious why Plex is identifying videos with a resolution of 720X404 as 576p. Previously, they were recognized with a resolution of either 480p or SD.
If you look at the attached XML for the file, it has 2 versions, one is 1280X720 identified as 720p, the second is 720X404 identified (incorrectly) as 576p. My only concern is that since they are now being identified as 576p, will this new resolution force a transcode to users asking for 480p at 1,5 Mbps even though the bitrate is in that range.
Frequently and unpredictably, the forum forgets what I have already read. I frequently come to the forum to find threads that I have previously marked as read saying there are a large number of unread messages. The now-unread messages may be several days old, even though I marked the entire forum as read within the past few hours.
This doesn't happen on all threads. It seems, though I can't swear to this, to happen on very active threads, or ones with several pages of comments.
Is anyone else seeing this?
I'm using Firefox 41.0.2 on Linux Mint 17.1 64-bit.
i can't seem to get my metadata to download correctly? worked fine for almost two years then all of sudden it stopped? i'm running current version on Seagate Personal Cloud
I have a failing hard drive with media content. I want to transfer this content to a new drive. Every time I try the posted steps from here "https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/201154537", my library places the content at the top of the "By Date Added" list (How I prefer to order my library). How can I retain the original date added metadata for the transferred content?
I just did a windows update now it can't find my server. ugg I have uninstalled and reinstalled the server. I can log into my Plex account, but when I try to access my server. Now it is showing me the list of movie folders on the side.
Plex employees use to be all over this board answering questions. There were many updates. Now apps are left buggy as hell, employees are no were to be seen on this board, everything is hush. You guys sell to another company? You going out of business? Someone tell us something. I have paid for a once polished and great product for one now that is being ignored and left unattended. HELLO?
This is a voting poll for a feature request that several Plex Media Server users have expressed interest in. I'm framing this description in an Agile development method, so that users and developers alike can easily follow this.
As a [Plex Media Server administrator]
I want [to edit the labels of the Audio Tracks and Subtitle Tracks of a Movie or TV Show]
So that [I can identify the difference between tracks of same language which were created for different purposes, such as Visually Impaired Audio, and Director's Comments, and Forced Subtitles]
AUDIO TRACK EXAMPLE:
Currently, the Audio Track selection appears like this:
English (DTS 5.1)
English (AC3 5.1)
English (AC3 Stereo)
but I want it to look like this:
English (Theatrical)
English (Director's Comments)
English (Visually Impaired)
SUBTITLE TRACK EXAMPLE:
Currently, the Subtitle Track selection appears like this:
English (PGS)
English (PGS)
English (PGS)
but I want it to look like this:
English (Normal)
English (Forced Subtitles)
English (Director's Comments)
THE ISSUE:
The issue is that Plex Media Server uses it's own labeling convention for Audio Tracks and Subtitle Tracks, which is not descriptive enough. The user can only guess which Audio Track or Subtitle is appropriate.
SOME HELPFUL DETAILS:
This would be especially useful with MKV file/containers.
I am able to easily edit the Name Attribute in MakeMKV(expert mode) and MKVToolNix(post-remuxing), but Plex Media Server does not recognize those attributes.

Hi,
If I add a "home user" from a "existing plex user" can this user also see and watch my "channels"?
Can you Use Animated Movie Posters In Plex?
I see Plex has personal API key input for Fanart.TV. But the people at Plex must remember a lot of the movie's on Fanart.TV don't offer complete artwork for a lot of movies. I would suggest making a option in Plex for Personal API Keys from The TMDb as well as Fanart.TV.I think a lot of the reason people get empty artwork when its pulled,is there is none! The Reason I no,is i have done a ton of edits for empty movie's that don't have correct info.
Hello All,
I'm new to Plex and I am currently trying out the free version to see if I like it before going premium. I have it set up on my Mac (and also the app on my other devices).
My question is, when I launch Plex media browser it opens a safari window http://127.0.0.1:32400/web/index.html. If I close my browser window, all of the content becomes unavailable to my other devices. Do I have to always keep an active browser window open? Is this how Plex is supposed to work? I hope not because that's kind of a pain. Maybe I have it set up incorrectly? Any advice you could offer would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Kat
I have an existing account that is several years old and I created another account for a different computer and logged into that account.
For some reason the web app and the server do not communicate with each other on the new account and even though both are on the same computer.
If I switch back to my old account the server is connected like usual.
I have uninstalled plex server and cleared out my windows history and cache files and reinstalled from scratch and still will not find the server. If I log in with my old account the server connection works.
I created 2 new accounts as a test and both of the new accounts will not find the server.
Any ideas?

So Plex is now beginning to support hardware accelerated transcoding (platform dependent) which is definitely a good thing. It allows my server to stream without buffering in pretty much all circumstances. If I turn it off my server is a different creature with judders and buffering pretty much the whole time. However, on occasions the hardware acceleration goes awry with blocky artifacts in fast moving sequences. I can overcome both these problems by creating an optimised version while I disable hardware acceleration. However I don't really want hardware acceleration turned off all the time because if I then want to transcode something on the fly I need it on to stop the buffering.
What I would like is an option in the optimised version settings to say "don't use hardware acceleration for this optimised version". This would sort out all my problems in one go. I could have optimised versions generated beautifully using no hardware acceleration and simultaneously stream smoothly when I needed to transcode on the fly. Would this be possible? Or is there already a way of achieving this?
