So I've been using Plex for couple months now on my laptop and I absolutely love it. I've been using MKV and Handbrake its all been working like a charm. But I want to use my laptop for just using MKV and Handbrake to edit the files etc and have a separate server that is completely dedicated to plex as I don't want my laptop on all the time and I need much more memory.
I plan on using Plex on all 3 TV's in the house - I will use the plex app on my xbox and I was thinking of using an Amazon Firestick TV or a Roku for the other two TV's. It's rare it will need to stream more than twice at the same time, but I would like a server that could handle that easily or even do more so memory is probably the biggest factor as I havn't even started ripping Blu Rays yet.
I have heard about transcoding and I'm still not entirely sure I understand what it means, but I know that I will only be using the server in my house I won't need to stream to any far locations. My laptop can stream good quality to iphones and ipads so if my laptop can do that I'm sure a decent server would.
So please any suggestions on what server to buy or set up ideas would be very useful. The cheaper the better I do not really want to spend more than £300. I know I could probably use an old pc as a server but I would rather buy an actual server.
