Mac mini vs Intel nuc

I'm starting my plex system. I was thinking a 2012 Mac mini so it can be upgraded. However now I'm seeing Intel nuc and curious which would you recommend?

Do they even sell the 2012 Mac mini in stores still? Or would I have to order off eBay or a electronic site that has older stuff?
