What is the best way to handle soft subs

Hello,

II am wondering if any one has a suggestion on how to deal with soft subs. I am noticing that my server taxing its CPU fairly hard when trying to watch anything with soft subs since it is transcoding. My current setup is a QNAP TS-1679U-RP with PMS installed. I have a Roku 3 at my place, my parents have a Roku 2 at theirs and a friend using an Xbox One and a friend using a Roku 3. For the most part there is only ever 2 of us watching something with soft subs on at a time. When I watch the CPU usage for soft sub files it is between 30-60% for one file and that doesn't include other processes on the server.

My files are MKV, H.264, AAC with ASS subs

Is there something I can do either to the files such as changing the file type or anything like that short of hard coding the subs. Or can I do something on the hardware side such as move everyone over to a particular device other than the rokus or Xbox that can handle direct play for soft subs or is there a way to set PMS into a Cluster where the QNAP is the primary has all the media and add a PC to just handle transcoding. Or am I missing a setting in PMS or the PLEX app to make the rokus handle soft subs.
