Hi all,
Several questions that I've had over the past several months, but haven't yet posted:
- With the custom certificates that enable HTTPS on Plex servers, my understanding was that, when enabling this, I'd no longer be able to navigate to my local IP address to get to the secure page, while also allowing secure remote access. If I access my server via https://app.plex.tv/[etc] from a computer on my local network, is my media routed over my local network, or does traffic pass outside my home?
- What's the security model for Plex server? When home user functionality was implemented, I created several users to disallow access to server settings...but we also recently bought a TV + Roku...and having to enter a password with the Roku remote for each user is quite tedious. Is there a way to lock down access to server settings while also making it easier to use the Roku app?
- I recently rebuilt my home server to take it off of Windows Home Server and move to Windows 10 (Pro). I managed to save all of my media, but forgot that Plex server saves all downloaded metadata (cover art, etc) to a different location...and so I lost it. When I told it to analyze/update/refresh my libraries, most of the metadata I had originally had was no longer there. Did I configure something incorrectly? Is there something wrong with the services Plex connects to for its metadata? It's really annoying not having artwork for most of my music and movies.
- Someone in my family recently tried to watch a movie in our Plex library on the computer recently...and every 3-4 minutes, the movie froze with the error "We are having trouble playing your video." See below for a screenshot of the error with the resource monitor of the server running via Remote Desktop, information about the video file, and information about the hardware that the server is running on. Any idea what's going on? It's really frustrating for the non-techie people in the family to not be able to listen to music/watch movies when they want to.
